on tonight, and right now though it's a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain through oklahoma city and dangerous thunderstorms with reports of pea-sized hail and you can see the lightning strikes popping up across dallas, texas into she haveport and all this energy sliding northeast. a lot of moisture coming up from the gulf that's just enhancing it. what does that mean for today? we don't have a tornado watch yet, but i anticipate we'll see one for this afternoon, especially for the areas highlighted in the brighter orange color. good risk for a moderate risk for the risk of tornadoes, hail and possible damaging winds. some of these winds could get up to 50 miles per hour or greater. if it's not enough where we have the lightning and thunder and rain we also have dense fog. make it any more dangerous to see if there e's debris blown apart. this is really tough this morning for those that are traveling. be very careful with the fog out there and snow building in later today and tonight. a real mess for this christmas. i hope everyone can stay inside as much as possible. >> lots for

...that is where we begin our l with kron-4's j-r stone. who spoke with the city's mayor just a few minutes ago. j-r? >> reporter: i did. at the water levels are down. you can this see in the distance the and san franciscquito creek it was flowing and not quite like a great but more like a river. it was flowing into this river section that the working crews are trying to clean up. on the opposite side of that fence our homes. let me show you video. they have been busy out here for the last one hour working. the goal is to bring in more in san backs this evening. they wanted to secure this lobby. if they have more rain fall, or more in the coming days it will not be a problem for the homes. total, seven homes had mandatory evacuation's. and even the people in this neighborhood but there was a voluntary evacuation process. everybody with the exception of one home is back. that is good news. no injuries. we spoke with the mayor. short-term solutions, what the levy problems and also long term solutions in the works. >> right now given the conditions you do not want to move the soil around that much. y

their loved ones. david lee miller in our new york city newsroom with more on this. david lee, what more do we know about the gunman at this hour. >> william spangler was an ex-con. he beat his own grandmother to death back in 19 0. at the time he was charged with second degree murder but he pled to manslaughter. he was released from prison in 1998. until six years ago he was on parole. the local police chief said today that spangler's criminal past raises serious questions about how he obtained firearms. >> spangler was a convicted felon so it doesn't -- you know, he is not allowed to possess weapons. so, you know, did he legally possess those weapons? no. we have had all kinds of weapons larcenies in town and around the county and in wayne county as of late so i don't know where those weapons came from but we are certainly going to find out. >> there is still no known motive for the rampage. authorities say spangler's 67-year-old sister with whom he lived in the home that burned to the ground is unaccounted for. jamie? >> jamie: any more on the condition of the firemen all volunteers? >> one
